GUIDED HIKES & RIDES
Marana is home to an amazing trails system that is perfect for hikers, bikers, and those who like to take in the vistas with their equine companions.
Explore the spectacular Tortolita Mountains on a guided hike with Marana Parks and Rec’s knowledgeable and safety-conscious guides. Their guides will lead participants along well maintained trails while talking about the unique features and creatures of the Sonoran Desert.
The Town of Marana Parks and Recreation Department offers this series of monthly hikes as way for participants to learn, burn calories, and meet other hikers in a beautiful outdoor setting. Each monthly hike varies in distance and elevation gain.
December’s hike is Saturday, December 2, from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
Marana Parks and Rec have teamed with Tucson Mountain Stables to allow you to experience the Tortolita Preserve on horseback. Gaze at the natural beauty while riding along with experienced guides.
All guided horseback rides will be on the 8.8-mile Tortolita Preserve trail. The trail meanders in and out of arroyos and washes and is perfect for even the beginner rider. You are sure to fall in love with the Sonoran Desert after this ride.
Tucson Mountain Stables has experienced and friendly horses that are sure to make the ride memorable.
December’s horseback ride is on Sunday, December 17, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
The Town is also offering Mountain Bike rides. Get active in the great outdoors and explore the Tortolita Preserve by Mountain Bike. Join their friendly and knowledgeable staff on nine miles of beginner to intermediate single track trail. Get exercise, have fun and meet new people while on the trail.
December’s mountain bike ride is on Sunday, December 3, from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
EGG NOG JOG
Need to work off some of the Holiday imbibing? Then run, walk or jog into 2018 at the 11th Annual Egg Nog Jog. Kickoff your fitness resolution at this popular event.
This sanctioned 5K route and new 10K option begin at Continental Reserve Park and loops through the beautiful Reserve neighborhood. The race is non-competitive, but timing chips will be available on race day. Enjoy Egg Nog and fun raffle prizes at the finish line.
The race is on New Year’s Day and the race begins at 9:18 a.m. Make sure to show some 2018 spirit and you might win big. Break out those funny hats, light up glasses, or matching shirts, the best show of spirit will win a fun bonus prize.
