Mission San Xavier del Bac
Mission San Xavier del Bac is a National Historic Landmark and was established in 1692 by Father Eusebio Kino, an Italian Jesuit missionary. In 1756 a church was constructed, after Father Kino's death (1711). Construction of the present day mission began in 1783 by Spanish Franciscans and was completed in 1797. A unique feature of the mission is its location on the Tohono O'odham Nation San Xavier Indian Reservation. The mission has a baroque façade and exaggerated Italianate baroque revival architectural flourishes.
