Curious about what to expect when hiking around Marana? Trails for hikers of all levels abound, but there are also several unique experiences when it comes to venturing through the outdoors in southern Arizona, including:

The Best Time to Hike in Marana

Plan your hiking adventure during the spring and fall, as temperatures are more mild. March through May and September through November are the most ideal months with temperatures generally varying between the 70s to 80s. The winter is also a good time to hike in Marana with temperatures ranging in the 60s to 70s. Check out a live forecast of the weather here.

What to Bring

For your hiking adventure, make sure to wear sunscreen, walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and a long-sleeved shirt in order to prevent UV skin damage. Other hiking essentials include:

  • Bottled Water
  • High-Energy Snacks
  • First-Aid Kit
  • Map & Compass
  • Headlamp or Flashlight
  • Whistle
  • Electrolyte Powder
  • Trekking Poles

Leave No Trace

As you plan your hiking experience, make sure to practice Leave No Trace principles.

  • Plan ahead and prepare for park regulations, weather forecast, and emergencies.
  • Hike and camp on durable sites, camping at least 200 feet away from streams.
  • Get rid of garbage properly by packing your trash.
  • Leave rocks, plants, cultural artifacts and landmarks, as well as natural items untouched.
  • Maintain small fires if they are permitted on park grounds. Extinguish your campfire and then spread out the cool ashes.
  • Do not walk up to any wildlife species or feed them.
  • Consider the presence of other hikers and practice appropriate outdoor etiquette.
