Why didn't the tortoise cross Picture Rocks Road?
As part of Wild Connections Week — Scout for Sonoran Desert tortoises and their burrows in the scenic Tucson Mountains!
Learn about how the traffic on Picture Rocks Road threatens the movement of tortoises, and many other creatures, across the Tucson Mountains and within Saguaro National Park West. We’ll talk about what’s making traffic worse, and what can be done. Local experts from Tucson Herpetological Society will be joining us!

Where: Parking lot off Picture Rocks Road near the Cam-Boh Trail in Saguaro National Park
What: Up to a 1.5 mile walk on rocky terrain to find local tortoises and their burrows, with stops to learn from local experts about challenges to wildlife movement and to visit one of our remote wildlife cameras.
